Paul Verhoeven, director of "Elle" and "Benedetta", will team up again with BacFilms to create a dark comedy, "Magical Nights". Mixing elements of black film and satire, the film explores the behind-the-scenes stories of the golden era of Italian cinema. Set in 1990s Rome, it follows three promising screenwriters who are suspected of the murder of a famous producer, who was found dead in the Tiber river on the night of the World Cup final. As they are questioned by the police, they begin to reminisce about the glory and decline of Italian cinema. Newcomers Mauro Lamantia, Giovanni Toscano, and Irene Vetere will play the three screenwriters, with script by Francesca Archibugi and Francesco Piccolo. The film is currently shooting in Rome and is expected to be released in the second quarter of next year.
